Calls for states, but also companies to ensure the compliance of digital tools and products with human rights are ever-present. The legal, political, and institutional conditions needed to get there are however far from clear. How can we initiate meaningful improvements to the conduct of these powerful actors through human rights, given their indeterminate, often even disputed nature? This question was tackled by the
Sixth European Multidisciplinary Conference on Global Internet Governance Actors, Regulations, Transactions and Strategies (GIG-ARTS), co-sponsored by the HBI and held in Nicosia, Cyprus in April 2022. This dossier collects articles from a select group of early career researchers who submitted outstanding research to the conference, and whose presentations at the conference, and networking amongst each other, was supported by the HBI through a dedicated HBI-GIG-ARTS Emerging Scholars program.
