Expertise unter Druck

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schulz and Katharina Mosene are taking part in the one-day symposium "Expertise unter Druck. Orientierung und Schutz für Wissenschaftler*innen in der Öffentlichkeit" [Expertise under Pressure. Orientation and Protection for Scientists in the Public Sphere]. The program includes specialist workshops on questions of law, communication and resilience for scientists, as well as discussion forums on root cause analysis or navigating heated discussions in (digital) spaces of science communication and the public sphere.

The symposium marks the start of a new initiative for the orientation and protection of researchers in the public sphere by the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS and Klaus Tschira Stiftung. It is organized together with Scicomm-Support, supported by the Bundesverband Hochschulkommunikation e.V. and WiD.

Wolfgang Schulz will participate as an expert in the workshop "Rechtliche Aspekte von Wissenschaftsfeindlichkeit in der Wissenschaftskommunikation – Wann ist die Wissenschaftsfreiheit gefährdet und was braucht es für einen sicheren Diskursrahmen?" [Legal Aspects of Hostility to Science in Science Communication – When is Academic Freedom at Risk and What Is Needed for a Safe Discourse Framework?], which will focus on legal aspects of attacks and threats against communicating scientists.

The workshop "Kommunikative Aspekte der Orientierung und des Schutzes für Wissenschaftler:innen in der Öffentlichkeit: Wo sind die Fallstricke?" [Communicative Aspects of Orientation and Protection for Scientists in Public: Where are the Pitfalls?] will address communication on both an individual and institutional level in the event of attacks and hostility towards science.

The third workshop is dedicated to the topic of resilience.

Katharina Mosene will moderate the discussion on the outcomes of the workshops.

In a concluding panel on the topic "Ein neues Bild von Wissenschaft? Expertise in Zeiten von Krise und Fake-News" [A New Image of Science? Expertise in Times of Crisis and Fake News], the panel will include
  • Prof. Dr. Alena Buyx, Chair of the German Ethics Council,
  • Prof. Dr. Christian Drosten, Head of Virology at the Charité in Berlin,
  • Dr. Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
Moderation: Prof. Manuel Hartung, Chairman of the Board of the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS
