Sommer des Wissens 2019

The Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut is participating in Sommer des Wissens [Summer of Knowledge] with five events from 20 to 23 June 2019. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Universität Hamburg, Hamburg's universities and research institutions are transforming the Rathausmarkt into a campus for four days.
 
In four large theme tents, they present the entire spectrum of research and science in the city and offer exciting lectures, experiments and hands-on activities as well as a programme for school classes and children. In the evening, there will be a live programme all about research and science on the big stage.

21 June: 6:00 p.m. - 7:45 p.m. Medienbildung in Lehre, Wissenschaft und Forschung [Connected: Media Education in Teaching, Science and Research]

Media education is the central buzzword when it comes to competences for growing up in digital worlds. Using the example of various projects (e.g. by students of the Universität Hamburg) it will be shown and discussed how a connection between media education and media research can succeed.

22 June: 11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.: Internetführerschein: Mit 10 Fragen klug ins Netz [Internet Driving Licence: 10 Smart Questions on the Net]

It is exciting on the Internet, but there are also dangers lurking around - like in road traffic. To drive a car or ride a bike, you need a driver's license. And on the Internet? We clarify the 10 most important questions for secure online communication. If you're in a good mood, you'll get an Internet driving licence.

On the Internet, the same law applies as in the offline world. And yet many have the feeling that the Wild West still exists. All you need to know is how to defend yourself on the net. We offer an open consultation table with experts to discuss your questions about the Internet.

Saturday, 22 June: 3:00 p.m. - 3:45 p.m Vom Flüchtlingstagebuch zum Merkel-Selfie: Medien und Flucht in sich wandelnden Medienumgebungen [From Refugee Diary to Merkel-Selfie: Media and Fleeing in Changing Media Environments]

For refugees, the media are vital (for survival) - then and now. In an interview with Johanna Sebauer, the two researchers Philipp Seuferling and Hans-Ulrich Wagner show historical and current examples of media use by refugees.

22 June 6:00 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. Wir können Sie verfolgen: Welche Wege gehen unsere Daten? [We Can Track You: Which Ways Does Our Data Go?] 

The apps that we use on our smartphones and tablets every day collect a lot of data about us. The fact that actors who are running in the background usually have access as well, which makes it difficult for users to assess. We offer some clarification, make suggestions for using apps and offer an expert lecture.
