Maris Männiste, M.A.

Maris Männiste is a doctoral student and information systems assistant at the Institute of Social Studies at University of Tartu. From March to May 2019 Maris was a Junior Fellow at the Postdoc-Kolleg “Algorithmed Public Spheres” at the Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut. Her research interests include people’s perceptions of privacy, datafication practices, peoples’ attitudes and everyday practices related to personal informatics systems (e.g. self-tracking, self-monitoring but also monitoring children). Her current research focuses on data practices used by Estonian data experts who are responsible for the analysis and management of data flows related to mobile groups in Estonia, their understandings of social datafication, algorithmic selection, as well as their attitudes and experiences with data related to mobile groups.

Her PhD project is entitled Privacy in the Context of Big Data: Individual Interpretations and Methodological Challenges.
