In a contribution for the European Audiovisual Observatory, the various functional levels of egal concept of “editorial responsibility” are being elucidated as well as criteria for determining when editorial responsibility, in the sense of the European Directive on Audiovisual Media Services, can be established for a media service.

The legal concept of “editorial responsibility” takes centre stage in the new European Directive on Audiovisual Media Services. Its influence begins with the area of the Directive’s application.
