Welcome Marta Rodríguez-Castro

Welcome Marta Rodríguez-Castro

In March and April 2020 Marta Rodríguez-Castro will be a guest researcher at HBI. She is currently a PhD candidate at the Department of Communication Sciences of the University of Santiago de Compostela. Her thesis examines the development of public value tests in European public media organizations and asks whether the debate on public value testing should be reopened in Spain, where such a procedure is currently not used. To this end, Marta appies a policy transfer framework and focuses on three case studies in Germany, Belgium and Spain. She would therefore like to use her time in Germany in particular to interview key actors in the German public broadcasting system.

Marta holds a B.Sc. in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Santiago de Compostela and a Masters in Media Research from the University Carlos III de Madrid. Since 2017 she has been a member of the Novos Medios (New Media) research group at the University of Santiago de Compostela. She has received an educational grant from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Universities. In 2018 she was a visiting scholar at the Center for Media, Data and Society at the Central European University in Budapest.

Her research focuses on media policy, public service media, media structure and the impact of digital platforms on the media environment. During the last three years she was part of the working teams of two competitive research projects dealing with the financing, management and values of European public service media. She has also worked on non-competitive projects commissioned by the Federation of Spanish Regional Public Broadcasters (FORTA). She is also currently working on the Spanish report in the Media Influence Matrix series, published and coordinated by the Center for Media, Data and Society.
