Starting in 2021, our journal "Medien & Kommunikationswissenschaft [Media & Communication Studies]" will be published open access! All future issues as well as all issues published since 2000 can then be accessed free of charge via the eLibrary of Nomos Verlag at
https://www.m-und-k.nomos.de.
Scientific findings should be available to everyone without restriction and for free. This is even more the case when it comes to the publication of research that has been supported by public research funds. The editorial team of M&K at the Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans Bredow Institute has therefore developed a new model in cooperation with the Nomos publishing house to implement the transformation to an open access journal (golden route) starting with the 69th volume (2021).
This means for our authors that they can continue to publish excellent articles in our journal without facing any costs. The free accessibility of their articles significantly increases the potential reach and ensures that the contributions are taken note of. The freest of all licenses, CC BY, also gives them the opportunity to upload articles to commercial platforms such as Researchgate without embargo periods.
Subscribers who have previously received M&K as a print product can continue to do so. M&K will continue to have a print edition, which will be sold as a paid subscription like in the past. Nomos-Verlag will continue to finance services such as typesetting, printing, distribution, advertising and metadata management.
What will also stay the same is the peer review process that guarantees the quality of the articles published in M&K. All articles are first publications, and they go through a double blind peer review process before being published.
