The surveillance of left-wing media by domestic intelligence services and possible consequences for press freedom will be discussed by
Amélie Heldt (HBI), Dietmar Koschmieder (managing director of Junge Welt), Osman Oğuz (editor of Yeni Özgür Politika, the only Kurdish daily newspaper in Europe) and Hans-Christian Ströbele (former Member of the Bundestag, The Greens, member of the Bundestag's 2009 enquiry committee on the oversight of intelligence services).
In recent weeks, the relationship between press freedom and the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution has attracted attention after the federal government gave a somewhat curious answer to a question on the surveillance of Junge Welt by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. Some media had reported critically on this, including the Süddeutsche Zeitung.
Mandy Tröger and Kerem Schamberger will moderate the event.
