About the Event

Journalism is not for free. This means: investigative research have consequences. They point out grievances, they drive changes and bring down the powerful, they are in the service of society. This journalism is worth it, but it is also an elaborate process. In other words: it costs money, which is scarce in many places.
The conference will talk about both aspects – about the orientation of journalism towards the common good as well as on other new financing ideas. What role does non-profit journalism play in the media world by now - not only in Germany? How can foundations support journalistic ideas and research? Club, community, crowd – how do readers becoming paying sponsors? What alternative financing models have proven itself in journalism, what mistakes have been made?
Journalists like Elisa Simantke (Investigate Europe), Christian Schwägerl (RiffReporter), Tabea Grzeszyk (Hostwriter) and Leonid Klimov (Dekoder) but also experts like Julia Herrnböck (Dossier/University of Vienna), Christopher Buschow (Bauhaus-Universität Weimar), Volker Lilienthal (Universität Hamburg) and Simon Jochim (Stiftung Entrepreneurship) will be at this event.
