In the digital society, sensitive data is collected in all areas of life, which increasingly influence economic and political processes. The proper handling of such data is the central focus of the research network "Information Governance Technologies: Ethics, Policies, Architectures and Engineering" led by Universität Hamburg.

The Department of Informatics at Universität Hamburg is currently working on the development of new interdisciplinary research topics that focus on technical, legal, economic and social aspects of the development and application of IT. This is not only about technical concepts, but also about processes, or more generally about a regulatory framework for the use of IT, which is not only driven by technology, but also takes the social, ethical and legal issues into account from the very beginning.

This research project, one of eleven Hamburg-based projects, will receive funding of up to 1.75 million euros over a period of 3.5 years starting on 1 July 2017. The aim of the state research funding is to support the research priorities at state universities and their cooperation partners in addition to their basic funding and to enable them to successfully raise federal or EU funds.
