Discussion: The Future of Social Media

Lisa Merten from the Hans-Bredow-Institut and Andreas Hedrich from Universität Hamburg will discuss the future of social media within the event series „Science-Fiction Kino [Science Fiction Cinema]” at the main auditorium of the Hamburg University of Technology. The panel discussion will take place after the screening of the film “The Circle”.

The event is part of the project SciFiVisions by Dr. Lars Schmeink. This project focuses on what the future could look like. Science fiction will be used to think about the future and its design in the form of "what if" experiments. As a society, we face a variety of challenges, most of which are determined by new or changing technologies that surround us.It is difficult to assess the effects of these technologies correctly at the time, but this is exactly where SF comes in. Since fictional scenarios can think individual developments into extreme ones, they can also be sometimes unlikely or unusual. In this way, they enable us to take a new perspective and recognise new areas of action.
