You're watching your favourite show and suddenly the stream freezes - the internet connection is down. Usually you're right back on the Net, but what happens if you are not? No Internet, no WhatsApp, Facebook and Amazon. But it gets much worse. In no time, the entire infrastructure and, thus, our basic services collapse. A world governed by chaos? How threatening is this state of disaster and are we prepared in case of an emergency? How secure are our data networks from the blackout and what are alternative infrastructures? Welcome to a post-digital society in which we have to ask ourselves if we can still live without the Internet at all.
The host Katja Weber discusses this topic with our guests, including
- Haya Shulman, Head of Department 'Cybersecurity Analytics and Defences', Frauenhofer SIT
- Matthias Wählisch, Professor and Head of the Research Group 'Internet Technology', FU Berlin
The topic will be introduced by Kai Gärtner, project manager and former disaster control officer (system admin) at the HIIG.
The Digitaler Salon opens its doors at 6:30 p.m. From 7 p.m., the event will be broadcasted live on hiig.de. Then it is time to join in – at the venue or via Twitter using #DigSal. The Digitale Salon takes place every last Wednesday of the month with a different topic. You can find recordings of past Digitale Salon events and more information
here.
A registration for Digitaler Salon is not required.
