Ankommen in Deutschland gestern und heute: Migration aus persönlicher und journalistischer Perspektive

“Ankommen in Deutschland gestern und heute: Migration aus persönlicher und journalistischer Perspektive [Arriving in Germany Then and Now: Migration from a Personal and Journalistic Perspective]“ is a cooperative event of the Hans-Bredow-Institut with the Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland Foundation, the Historical Commission of ARD and WDR 5, and takes place on 18 September 2018 at 7:15 p.m. in Bonn. Admission is free, a registration is requested. For further information, see below.

The arrival of refugees is currently a major challenge throughout Europe. However, the situation in Germany is nothing new.  Germany has been a target of forced migration since the end of the Second World War, which has always been accompanied by journalistic reporting. What does “arriving” in Germany then and now mean? Can the arrival situations of the different movements of refugees and their media response be compared?

Julia Schöning talks to Uwe-Karsten Heye, Abbas Khider, Isabel Schayani and Hans-Ulrich Wagner about personal and journalistic experiences of migration from 1945 until today.

A registration for the event and for a guided tour of the Haus der Geschichte is required at acri@hdg.de or by fax: 0228/9165-302

Prior to the event, the Haus der Geschichte offers a guided tour through the permanent exhibitions to interested guests at 6:15 p.m.
