The internet has long been seen as an opportunity to make political discourse more democratic by giving a public voice to people and groups who previously had little to say in news coverage. By now, social networks have become a power in political discourse: Fridays for Future, #metoo, #blacklivesmatter - social movements can set topics in public discourse through the internet.
However, this power is not always used in a democratic sense: Alternative media, filter bubbles and radical content in forums that are difficult to see contribute to the trivialisation of political discourse, because people no longer discuss with those who think differently.
